Farm Animal Days attracts largest crowd ever
The college’s annual Farm Animal Days event drew a record crowd of 10,962 during its three-day run in March.
“Nearly 5,000 folks came on Friday alone,” said Extension associate and event coordinator Brent Jennings. “Farm Animal Days offers a great opportunity for the public to learn about animal agriculture and for kids to have hands-on experiences with farm animals and equipment.”
There are animals galore – including chicks, sheep and rabbits to pet – as well as roping demonstrations, tractors to climb on and complimentary cups of N.C. State’s signature “Howling Cow” ice cream. The event is free and open to the public.
Long-time Farm Animal Days volunteer Col. W.C. Koch gave event organizers a surprise this year when he offered a $1,000 check for the milk can that is set out to collect donations from event-goers.
“We’re very grateful to Colonel Koch, not only for this generous gift, but also for his years of service at Farm Animal Days,” Jennings said.
Wake County Farm Bureau provided $5,000 for the event and was the primary sponsor, while other sponsors were N.C. Farm Bureau Federation, Inc., N.C. State Animal Science Club, N.C State’s Howling Cow Ice Cream, N.C. Cattlemen’s Association, N.C. Pork Council, North Carolina’s Egg Farmers (N.C. Egg Association), and Dr. and Mrs. Frank D. Sargent.
