Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center celebrates 50 years, looks ahead to the next 50

Fifty years to the day after the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center was dedicated, the center is throwing a party, and all are invited to attend. The celebration and open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 17 at the center, which is located in Reidsville, N.C.

4-H scholarship endowment created by Wilson couple

The endowment will be used to provide scholarships for Wilson County 4-H’ers enrolled in an agriculture, business or health sciences undergraduate or two-year curriculum in any school in the UNC system or N.C. Community College system -- including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its Agricultural Institute.

Horse Bowl trots into N.C. State University

North Carolina State University is hosting the 2014 State 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology Contest on Sat., March 1, in SAS Hall on the university’s campus. Coordinated by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service’s 4-H Horse Program, the annual event invites youth from across the state to test their knowledge of all things horse.

‘A rebirth of agriculture’: Extension helps unemployed veteran launch sustainable business, giving new life to an old family farm

When Robert Elliott imagines his future as a farmer, he sees a large operation with a nice market where customers can buy affordable, sustainably produced vegetables, fruit, chickens, turkeys and more. While it's just a dream right now, Elliott is making fast progress since the day when he found himself an unemployed veteran with no job prospects. He credits the support and knowledge he’s gotten from North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Advisory leaders meet and tour sites in Watauga County

Extension’s State Advisory Council toured two sites in Boone, following its fall meeting there in November 2013. SAC members toured a constructed that Extension had been involved in creating. They also toured a choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm in Foscoe, near Boone.
