CALS faculty members honored by NACTA

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty members were prominent among honorees at the 2010 conference of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA), held in June at Penn State University.

Named NACTA Teacher Fellows were Dr. Barry Croom, Department of Agricultural and Extension Education (AEE); Dr. Mark Kistler, AEE; and Dr. Jan Spears, Department of Crop Science. Herman Sampson, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, received a Teaching Award of Merit, while Kevin Curry Jr., AEE, received a NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award.

Additionally, the professional organization has elected Dr. Jeannette Moore, Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor and Undergraduate Teaching Coordinator in the CALS Department of Animal Science, to serve as president-elect for the coming year. She will become NACTA president at the 2011 annual conference at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

NACTA is dedicated to “advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning in agricultural, environmental, natural and life sciences.” Members include university and college educators and administrators, and there is also a graduate student membership category.

The organization’s peer-reviewed NACTA Journal is published quarterly.
