The 2011 Landscape Professional Field Day takes place at the JC Raulston Arboretum on N.C. State University's campus in Raleigh. University researchers and Extension specialists will discuss weed management, insect problems and pruning techniques.

N.C. Research Campus, Davidson College students collaborate on blueberry genome sequencing project

Dr. Allan Brown, assistant professor with N.C. State University’s Plants for Human Health Institute at the N.C. Research Campus, is leading the effort to sequence the blueberry genome. Seven Davidson College undergraduates, in a course led by biology professor Dr. A. Malcolm Campbell, have been given a sneak peek at a portion of the berry’s DNA.

A couple of years ago an economist wrote a book titled "The Black Swan," which is about unpredictable events. He argued the severity of the recession was a black swan. Jon Ort, former CALS associate dean and Extension director, has passed away

Dr. Jon F. Ort died suddenly April 4 at his home in New Hill. Ort, 63, retired from N.C. State University in 2010 as associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and director of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
