Shared Departmental Equipment

In addition to instruments and services offered by University Core Facilities, we have shared departmental equipment for use by members of the Biochemistry Department.

As availability permits, instruments may be used by others of the NC State research community. Please note that fees may be assessed to cover operational costs and service contracts.

BioTek Cytation 5

BioTek Cytation 5 combines automated digital microscopy and conventional microplate detection in a configurable, upgradeable platform. The microscopy module offers up to 40x magnification in fluorescence, brightfield, and color brightfield for maximum application reach. The multi-mode detection modules include filter- and monochromator-based fluorescence detection, luminescence, and UV-Vis absorbance detection.

BioTek Synergy H1

BioTek Synergy H1 is a modular multimode microplate reader, with monochromator-based optics and filter-based optics. Absorbance, Full-light luminescence, and Time resolved fluorescence. It offers continuously variable bandwidth monochromators for fluorescence excitation and emission wavelength selection.

Geno/Grinder

The Geno/Grinder is an automatic high-throughput plant and animal tissue homogenizer. It can accommodate a full range of sample vials from 2mL to 50mL centrifuge tubes or up to six deep-well titer plates. It is designed specifically for rapid cell disruption, cell lysis and tissue homogenization through bead beating, enabling fast and efficient extraction of nucleic acids, proteins and other molecules.

Li-Cor Odyssey CLx

The Odyssey CLx is a next-generation multifunctional imaging platform for quantitative Western blots, in cell Western blots, tissue section imaging, Coomassie protein gel imaging, nucleic acid gel imaging, glycoprotein detection, and gel shift assays. Its broad dynamic range dramatically enhances sensitivity and reproducibility over older methods of detection.

iBright FL1500

The iBright FL1500 supports the imaging of fluorescent, chemiluminescent, and colorimetric western blots, in addition to fluorescent stained nucleic acid gels, fluorescent stained protein gels, colorimetric stained protein gels, and colorimetric membrane stains.

Labconco Freeze Dryer
