Biochemistry Faculty Candidate Seminar – Dr. Chenxin Li

February 27 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Please join us this Tuesday 27 February for a Biochemistry faculty candidate seminar for the position of Plant Molecular Biochemist

“Genomics and regulation of plant specialized metabolism, and implications for bioeconomy”

Dr. Chenxin Li, University of Grorgia

Bio

Dr. Chenxin Li is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at the University of Georgia. His research seeks to understand how the genome and epigenome shape plant metabolism throughout development. He holds a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a PhD in Plant Biology, both from the University of California – Davis. In his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Robin Buell, he developed a single cell omics-assisted genome-to-pathway discovery pipeline to reveal that the biosynthesis of the anti-cancer drug vinblastine is sequentially organized in three distinct cell types. He has extended this approach to other plant species that produce structurally related natural products. This work is supported by the NSF and the NIH. His teaching activities feature the use of R programming and data visualization, and he is becoming acclaimed for his Github repository entitled “Friends don’t let friends make bad graphs”.
