The Management of Horses in a Tropical Climate program will provide students with a hands on opportunity to work with horses in Costa Rica. Students will live at a horse ranch in central Costa Rica where they will be involved in all aspects of daily management and care of approximately 20 horses. Lectures from veterinarians, a farrier, a nutritionists and other equine professionals will discuss topics horse wound care, hoof care, biomechanics, nutrition, behavior and training, differences of managing horses in a tropical climate, and rehabilitation and management of horses used in tourism. Students will gain hands on experience with horses and gain a deeper understanding of veterinary care and health management of horses.
