Dole Named as Interim Associate Dean and Director for Academic Programs
On Monday, January 25, 2016, Dean Richard Linton named Dr. John Dole, Interim Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs, starting March 1. Dole replaces Sam Pardue who will become the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. Filling Dr. Dole’s role in Horticultural Science on an interim basis is Assistant Head, Dr. Wayne G. Buhler.
According to Dean Linton, Dr. Dole’s 25-plus-year career has well prepared him for the interim role of Associate Dean. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in horticulture from the University of Minnesota, he was a faculty member at Oklahoma State University from 1989 until joining NC State’s Horticultural Science faculty in 2000. At NC State, his research has focused on flowering and postharvest physiology, specifically with commercial cut flowers and bedding and potted plants. He teaches graduate-level flowering physiology and formerly taught undergraduate courses in floricultural production and greenhouse management. He served as Director of Graduate Programs for eight years, before being appointed as Department Head in 2011.
Dr. Dole said, “I am honored to have the chance to work with and support CALS Academics. The college has world-class academic programs producing well-trained and well-prepared students. I admire Dr. Pardue’s many years of dedicated service to NC State and appreciate all that he has done for CALS. I hope to provide a smooth transition during this interim period.”
