McLaughlin receives soil science award

Dr. Richard McLaughlin, North Carolina State University soil scientist, is among 11 researchers who will receive awards from the Soil Science Society of America.

The SSSA will recognize McLaughlin and others at the 2011 Awards Ceremony during the annual meeting, Oct. 16-19 in San Antonio, www.acsmeetings.org. The annual awards are presented for outstanding contributions to soil science through education, national and international service and research.

McLaughlin, professor and extension specialist in the Department of Soil Science at N.C. State, received the Soil Science Applied Research Award. His program has focused on erosion, sediment, and turbidity control on construction sites. McLaughlin holds a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and master’s and doctorate degrees from Purdue University

He is active in the Soil and Water Conservation Society and the International Erosion Control Association, which presented him with the Educational Achievement Award for 2010.
