Lyndsie Young named Davie Extension Director

Lyndsie N. Young, Davie County’s 4-H leader for the last five years, has been named to direct North Carolina Cooperative Extension programs in the county.

Young’s appointment as Davie extension director was announced by Sheri Schwab, associate director and director of county operations for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service at North Carolina State University, and Beth Dirks, Davie County manager.

Young joined Cooperative Extension in 2007 as the 4-H and Youth Development agent for Davie County. She has served as interim director of Davie Cooperative Extension programs since 2010, when Greg Hoover left Davie to take a post as a district extension director.

The new Davie director holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Virginia Tech University. Her master’s, granted in 2006, is in agriculture extension and education, while her bacherlor’s is in animal and poultry science. Young taught agricultural education in the Cabarrus County school system for a year before joining Cooperative Extension in 2007.

“Lyndsie is good at planning and managing programs, not only her 4-H and youth programs but the many integrated programs serving the citizens of Davie County,” said Jim Cowden, director for extension’s North Central District, which includes Davie County.

Cowden added that Young has demonstrated leadership ability during her time as interim county director and that her experience as interim director and as a teacher will serve her well in her new role as county director.
