Sept. 19 Wellness Day

NC State faculty and staff,

Guidance for the wellness day, Tuesday, Sept. 19, is the same as the last two semesters.

There will be no classes held or assignments due on the wellness day, and I ask instructors to avoid any tests or deadlines on the wellness day, as well as the day after, Wednesday, September 20. Since this date has been on the calendar since last spring, my expectation is that instructors have made adjustments to their teaching plans that will not add to academic stressors for students or faculty. This is the guidance for all wellness days going forward, including the next one on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. For the dates of future wellness days through spring 2026, please see this message from Chancellor Woodson.

Vice Chancellor and Dean Doneka Scott is leading the Student Mental Health Steering Committee, responsible for bringing the collected data and recommendations together in an actionable form. This is essential in helping us determine next steps in elevating the wellness of our campus community and developing a stronger network of support for everyone.

Please keep in mind these important resources:

  • The Wolfpack Wellness website is your one-stop shop for information, resources and upcoming events related to mental health and well-being.
  • The Office for Faculty Excellence’s Faculty Wellness page provides strategies, resources, and guidance to cultivate an environment that supports your mental health and prioritizes your wellbeing.
  • The Counseling Center and Faculty and Staff Assistance Program offer a variety of support services for everyone.
  • The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a hotline for individuals in crisis or for those who want to help someone else. To speak with someone, dial 988.
  • The Crisis Text Line is a texting service for emotional crisis support. To speak with a trained listener, text HOME to 741741. This free, confidential service is available 24/7.
  • NC State Wellness and Recreation provides wellness programs and services for students, faculty and staff.
  • The Academic Success Center provides free programs and services for students.

In addition, the Counseling Center has created a toolkit for faculty and others who are teaching courses at the university who wish to consider ways they can support student mental health.

Please take care of yourself and each other.

Sincerely,

Warwick Arden
