The North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative (N.C. PSI) is looking for Platform Directors. There are two important areas in need of ambitious leaders within N.C. PSI, Extension Outreach and Engagement, as well as Education and Workforce Development.

N.C. PSI is focused on creating interdisciplinary teams to collaborate and partner with stakeholders so that we may accelerate discovery, talent development, and applied solutions that solve agricultural challenges. Our platform directors drive innovation, spark conversations, and are ambassadors for the initiative.

Right now there are three exceptional N.C. PSI platform directors, Dr. Ross Sozzani for Plant Improvement, Dr. Chris Reberg-Horton for Resilient Agricultural Systems, and Dr. Cranos Williams for Data-Driven Plant Sciences. We are in the process of developing the world’s premier plant science research and innovation hub. In order to meet the needs of our stakeholders locally and globally, these two additional positions will be critical to the success of N.C. PSI.

Key experience and characteristics for Extension Outreach and Engagement Platform Director include:

  • Has an Extension appointment or is an Extension Director/Specialist with a broad scientific knowledge and curiosity
  • Strong connection with NC Commodity Groups, growers, and NC communities
  • Ability to connect across NC PSI-hosted faculty, especially those without a strong connection to the NC agriculture community

Key experience and characteristics for Education and Workforce Development Platform Director include:

  • A faculty member with a desire to engage and support students of all levels in the PSI
  • Track record of developing and driving educational programs and/or student success initiatives.

Both roles will require:

  • Enthusiastic collaborative entrepreneurial spirit
  • 2-3 year sign up
  • Ability to start by early summer 2022

If you or someone you know at NC State would be interested in shaping the future through plant science innovation please contact Executive Director, Dr. Adrian Percy, by email (apercy@ncsu.edu) for more information.
