Special Adjustment Period for UNC Life Insurance Coverage

NC State employees enrolled in the UNC System life insurance plan (Securian) have a special opportunity Feb. 1-17 to make changes to their insurance coverage.

During this period, enrollees can reduce, increase or cancel their life insurance coverage. If you are happy with your coverage, you won’t need to take any action during the February adjustment period. If you don’t make changes to your coverage during the adjustment period, you won’t be able to make changes again until annual enrollment or until you experience a change in family status or another qualifying life event.

To make changes to your coverage, go to the UNC System benefits portal during the special adjustment period. You can navigate to the portal and make changes to your coverage by following the directions below:

  • Click Here to log directly into the UNC System Benefits Portal, or;
  • Go to Employee Self Service in the My Pack Portal.
  • Select the “Benefits Details Tile” On the left side of the next page, click “My UNC Benefits” to go to the UNC System benefits portal.
  • During the adjustment period, you will see a “Special Adjustment Period” link at the bottom of the homepage portal. Click that link and follow the directions that proceed.

Most changes made during the adjustment period will become effective March 1. If you increase your coverage, your effective date will be determined by the approval of your evidence of insurability.

Beneficiary Reminder

 

As communicated during Annual Enrollment, beneficary designations were not mapped from NC Flex for the Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Cancer and Critical Illness Plans.

If you did not update your beneficary information in the UNC Benefits Portal during annual enrollment, now is the time to ensure that you designate beneficaries within this platform for your plans.
