Event Cancellation Protocol

With the growing concerns related to COVID-19, and in light of recent university announcements, many organizations within our college are canceling upcoming events.

CALS Communications is closely monitoring our social media channels and event calendars to properly reflect those cancellations. We realize that departmental sites and channels require similar updates.

With that in mind, we ask that you review your website and social media channels and update previously scheduled events that are no longer happening, or moving to a virtual platform.

When canceling an event we recommend:

  • Adding the word “canceled” or “virtual” to the title of the event
  • Removing details and links from the event listing
  • Informing registered individuals of changes
  • Updating social media (for Facebook, canceling an event will prompt a notification to individuals who were “interested” or “going”)
  • Use language such as: “In light of Chancellor Woodson’s recent announcements and university policy regarding extended spring break and online classes, we are canceling ____. We will keep you informed as future events are scheduled.”

In an effort to keep our college community informed, we have launched the CALS Admin Update COVID-19 page on the CALS Employee Portal. This page provides CALS-specific administrative updates and information related to COVID-19 and the day-to-day operations of our college. Please visit frequently and share this resource among your department’s faculty and staff. For broader university guidance and resources, visit the NC State’s Coronavirus Response page.
