We are thrilled that Erin Meachum Lewis, writing lecturer at the Agricultural Institute (AGI), was named a recipient of the Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad award. The award provides short-term study abroad opportunities for U.S. educators and administrators to improve their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. She is one of 16 participants from across the U.S.
In July 2023, Lewis will embark on a four-week trip to Mexico to participate in the “Mexico-USA: Understanding the Development of a Strategic Relationship” seminar. Based on her experience, she will develop and disseminate a curriculum project to communicate her knowledge and understanding of Mexico. She plans to create a series of workshops or a curriculum unit to share with North Carolina State University, AGI and broader communities.
“I’m honored to receive the Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad award,” Lewis says. “I look forward to representing NC State in Mexico and deepening my understanding of the U.S.-Mexico relationship, particularly regarding agriculture. This experience will provide invaluable knowledge I can share through curriculum and outreach activities at NC State and beyond.”
Lewis holds a master’s degree in English with a concentration in rhetoric and composition from NC State and a bachelor’s degree in English and comparative literature with a minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership, policy and human development at NC State.
