Congratulations to Applied Ecology Department Extension Leader and William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor W. Gregory Cope, who was recently appointed to the Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board for the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Health and Human Services.

“This appointment recognizes Greg’s excellent scholarship and the value of the work that he does for the citizens of North Carolina,” according to Derek Aday, interim head of Applied Ecology.

Secretaries Michael S. Regan, of DEQ, and Mandy K. Cohen, of DHHS, appointed Cope to the board, which studies the toxicological effects of contaminants and advises the Environmental Management Commission about controlling those contaminants for protection of human health and the environment. It also provides input to DHHS as it establishes health goals.
