Annual Performance Evaluation Enhancement

NC State is committed to the learning and professional development of its faculty and staff and to a diverse and inclusive community.

Per Chancellor Woodson’s June 4, 2020 message entitled, “Diversity and Inclusion: Recognizing our Shortcomings, Working to Improve“, he stated that “we are committed to listening to the voices and lived experiences of those impacted and challenging ourselves to do the work necessary to build a more just and equitable NC State. As one first step, in the coming academic year, we will require every student, faculty and staff member to complete diversity and inclusion learning modules. This will include every member of Cabinet as well as all of the deans, directors and department heads of the university.”

As we enter the 2020-2021 annual performance cycle, NC State will now require all employees to complete at least one diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) course per year. In addition, the University recommends that each employee have at least one additional individual DEI learning and development goal each performance cycle. The supervisor will determine with the employee the appropriate learning and development goal(s) for the cycle. The supervisor is expected to ensure the mandatory one (1) DEI class requirement is met, and can also work with the employee to set additional learning and development goals.

In partnership with the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED), University Human Resources has revised the EHRA Non-Faculty and SHRA annual performance evaluation forms to more intentionally and consistently provide ongoing diversity and inclusion training for our employees at NC State.The revised performance evaluation forms for the 2020-2021 cycle can be found on the University’s Employee Relations website. It is expected that all EHRA Non-Faculty and SHRA employees will have performance evaluation plans that reflect the updated emphasis on NC State’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive community. For colleges and divisions that utilize their own EHRA Non-faculty performance evaluation forms, please incorporate the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Learning Plan language into your respective professional development section. University Human Resources has developed a DEI Learning Plan template to use as a guide.
