The purpose of this course would be to have students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences learn firsthand about horticultural crop production techniques, agri-business and agricultural policy in the Netherlands and Germany over a 9-day period. The Netherlands is known for their innovative farming techniques related to hydroponic, precision and sustainable farming. Dutch agriculture emphasizes sustainability and environmental consciousness which should be appealing to our CALS students who are interested in learning about eco-friendly farming methods. In addition to expanding the knowledge base of the students in agriculture, we will be able to visit various cultural monuments and sites that will allow our students to gain a broad experience into the culture of these countries. These visits will include the Anne Frank house, the Van Gogh Museum and the city of Amsterdam’s history and canals system, as well as the Dom cathedral along the Rhine river in Cologne, Germany.
