Three From CALS Named University Faculty Scholars

NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson has announced that three College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty members have been named to the 2016-17 class of University Faculty Scholars. The honor recognizes their efforts to turn research into solutions to society’s most pressing issues.

Of the 22 scholars named by Woodson, the three from CALS are:

• Owen Duckworth (pictured above), an associate professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences. He was cited for his work in the field of biochemistry to elucidate the factors that control the fate, transport, speciation and uptake of nutrient and contaminant metals in soils, natural waters and engineered systems.
• Chris Reberg-Horton, an associate professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences. He was cited for his work in the area of organic grains, which has included producing and translating innovation from the lab and field to the classroom and agricultural community.
• Wenqiao “Wayne” Yuan, an associate professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. He is a leader in the field of renewable energy engineering, including biofuels and bioproducts.

University Faculty Scholars are early- and mid-career academic leaders who carry the title for a five-year period and receive a $10,000 annual supplement.
