4-H to honor Larry Wooten, Francis Pressly and Dr. Mike Davis at Lifetime Achievement Awards event

The North Carolina 4-H Lifetime Achievement Awards Celebration will be held Wednesday, April 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Jane S. McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education in Raleigh, N.C. The annual fundraising event will honor the lifetime achievements of former 4-H members, families and supporters. Media are invited to attend.
North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation president Larry Wooten will receive the 4-H Lifetime Achievement Award. Francis Pressly, director emeritus of domestic and international programs for the National 4-H Council, and former state 4-H leader Dr. Mike Davis will be honored for their recent induction into the National 4-H Hall of Fame.
“These gentlemen represent the very best of 4-H, and we are proud to honor them and celebrate their accomplishments,” said Dr. Marshall Stewart, state 4-H program leader. “We’re incredibly grateful for their leadership, dedication and commitment to the organization.”
The celebration also will include a “Showcase of Excellence,” with 4-H’ers from across the state demonstrating science and technology, community service and leadership projects. Their interactive exhibits will feature topics such as technology, health, nutrition and literacy.
“The showcase is always a huge hit among event attendees,” Stewart said. “It gives our youth an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, confidence and leadership skills they’ve gained in 4-H and is a wonderful reflection of the power of 4-H in their lives.”
The cost of the event is $100 per person, while corporate sponsorships are available for $500 to $25,000. Event support helps provide a strong foundation for 4-H, a program that helps young people become future community and business leaders. In 2011, the Lifetime Achievement Awards event raised $177,000 to support the program.
The North Carolina 4-H program is the youth education program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, based at North Carolina State and North Carolina A&T State universities. It took root as corn and tomato clubs in Ahoskie, N.C., in 1909, and soon evolved from a rural youth program into the largest youth organization in North Carolina, with more than 235,025 participants and 20,491 youth and adult volunteers.
