CALS Pre-Vet students shine at 2015 APVMA conference
Pre-veterinary students from NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences once again excelled at the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association’s (APVMA) annual conference. Dr. Shweta Trivedi, director of the college’s VetPAC (Veterinary Professions Advising Center), announced that CALS students had scored a top award and an APVMA executive position at the 2015 conference, held March 27-29 at The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
“It is with great excitement and pride that I am sharing this excellent news of NC State Pre-Vets being the most outstanding Pre-Vets that there are,” said Trivedi, who accompanied the CALS contingent that she said was “was the largest representation from any university,” with 37 NC State Pre-Vets among the 550 event attendees.
The NC State PVMA (Pre-Vet Club) won the Outstanding Service Club of the Year award, presented to club President Greg Hartman and Vice President Michelle Sparks, both CALS animal science majors.
Meanwhile, Allie Borgelt, also a CALS animal science major and a VetPAC intern, was elected vice president of the APVMA National Executive Board.
Trivedi also noted that animal science major Nolan Shaw served as president of the Student Panel, AAVMC (Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges), at the conference.
Additionally, each year Trivedi hosts the Pre-Vet Advisers Meeting at the annual APVMA conference. She said that this year’s keynote speaker was Tony Wynne of the AAVMC.
The American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association is a national organization of students. Its goal is to promote and stimulate interest in the field of veterinary medicine, provide open communication between pre-veterinary clubs and organizations nationally, provide resources to students on pursuing the field of veterinary medicine and hold the annual national APVMA symposium. – Terri Leith
