The North Carolina Agricultural Research Service (NCARS) office has seen quite a bit of change in the past few months.

In September, Mollie Rappe joined the NCARS team as a science communication and marketing specialist. She will be writing about research from the college and leading strategic communication efforts of NCARS and the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative.

Ross Sozzani, a professor within Plant and Microbial Biology, joined the NCARS team as a Faculty Liaison in support of the Plant Sciences Initiative with a 25 percent appointment as of November 1.

Rebecca Boston, an Assistant Director of NCARS and a William Neal Reynolds Professor of Plant Biology, is retiring on March 31. Any tenured faculty interested in serving as a liaison between CALS administration and faculty, and as an advocate for the life sciences within the College, should talk to David Monks, the head of the search committee. Natalie Hummel, an Assistant Director NCARS and Director for the NC State Research Stations and Field Labs, left NC State for a position in industry on January 31. An interim director to oversee the research stations and university field labs will be named soon and a search to fill the position will begin shortly.

The Associate Dean for Research and Director of NCARS, Steve Lommel, will have his 5-year review the afternoon of February 21. For details about the event visit the CALS Employee Calendar.
