For more than 25 years, Claus Stig Pedersen has led at the intersection of sustainability and business. Currently, he serves as head of corporate sustainability for Novozymes, a global biotechnology company. Over the past decade, he and his team have positioned sustainability as a business driver. In 2016, the UN Global Compact named him an SDG Pioneer for his efforts to align Novozymes’ business strategy with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. With a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Sustainability Management, he became an early leader in life cycle assessment and application of sustainability in all areas of business. Additionally, he has been appointed Honorary Professor at the University of Aalborg and the Copenhagen Institute of Technology.

Claus Stig Pedersen, the Head of Corporate Sustainability at Novozymes, speaks about the Novozymes Business & Sustainability Leadership Journey. Novozymes is a biotechnology company and the world’s largest manufacturer of biological solutions for industry. Being a responsible company, operating with respect for the environment, people and society has been part of Novozymes’ DNA throughout the company’s history and the company has benefitted from its sustainability leadership in many ways. These include scientific innovation, employee motivation, attraction and retention, customer and investor recognitions, goodwill from policy makers and NGOs, storytelling and branding. In recent years Novozymes has made sustainability its company purpose. In this seminar Novozymes sustainability journey, challenges and results will be presented and discussed.
