New DEI Course: Applied Cultural Identity

To meet the growing interest in introductory-level diversity, equity and inclusion educational opportunities, OIED’s Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice unit has developed a new online, self-paced course, Applied Cultural Identity, for the NC State campus community.

The course focuses on building cultural awareness and understanding about how societal influences shape perceptions of ourselves and others. It also explores ways to create an inclusive workplace that promotes a sense of belonging. Applied Cultural Identity is the latest course to be added to the Inclusive Excellence Certificate program; however, there are no restrictions for taking this introductory course, and it is open to anyone in the campus community.

Applied Cultural Identity is presented in three interactive lessons:

  • Culture and Cultural Awareness
  • Identities and Social Interactions
  • Inclusion and Belonging in the Workplace

Applied Cultural Identity is available in the Wolfware project space in a visually engaging and responsive learning medium that can check the learner’s understanding of key concepts along the way. While it is estimated that the course takes approximately two hours to complete, learners are encouraged to take their time and explore the wealth of resources available within the platform. After completing the final quiz, learners can download a badge of completion from the Wolfware course for their profile.
