NC State’s Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry has earned accreditation from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) for the first time. The program is one of only two ASBMB-accredited programs in North Carolina and one of about 60 in the nation. Department Head Melanie Simpson credited the accomplishment to the hard work of faculty, led by Co-director of Undergraduate Programs Trino Ascencio-Ibáñez with assistance from Assistant Professor Ning Sui. Benefits of ASBMB accreditation can include a competitive advantage in recruiting star students and faculty, and in securing resources and funding.
