In Response to the Shooting in Buffalo

Dear CALS Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I send this message to you.

The tragic, racially-motivated shooting that killed 10 people last weekend in Buffalo, New York, has caused deep sadness and fear in our CALS community.

One CALS colleague expressed a sentiment that we all share in regard to this recent senseless act: “It hurts to know that an 18-year-old’s focus in life was to take the lives of Black people solely for the hue of their skin.”

Hate-fueled violence takes a toll on our hearts and minds, particularly those of our Black faculty, staff and students.

Please read and reflect on the letter from Provost Warwick Arden and Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity Sheri Schwab, in response to the shooting.

In Response to the Buffalo Shootings

CALS remains committed – along with the university – to confronting and condemning hate and inequality in all forms.

NC State has support resources available for our employees and students. We encourage you to reach out and use these helpful resources.
