Helping Our CALS Community Through the Western NC Devastation

As we continue to learn more about the devastating impact of the disaster in western North Carolina, our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones, their homes and their livelihoods to Hurricane Helene. The loss of life in these communities is a tragedy that deeply affects us all, and we stand in solidarity with those enduring this pain. We want to extend our support to any of our employees or their families who have been impacted by this catastrophe.

The effects of this crisis on our agricultural communities, the life sciences sector and the numerous individuals and families across large swaths of the state are profound. Please know that the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences stands ready to support you during this difficult time.

We also are working closely to support any students who are experiencing disruptions. Faculty are being asked to offer flexibility and understanding during this period, and we hope that you will extend similar grace to each other and to yourselves. The challenges we face are significant, but so is our strength as a community.

For those who are eager to help, we encourage you to refer to Chancellor Woodson’s message for guidance.

In the meantime, many established organizations are providing food, water and other essential supplies to those most in need. If you wish to donate, we ask that you direct contributions to organizations such as these.

As specific needs arise, NC State Extension will help coordinate opportunities for all of us to contribute to storm recovery efforts. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued dedication, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you or your colleagues need support.

With gratitude and care,

Garey Fox
Dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
