As September ushers in a new semester and season, it’s the perfect time for us in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) to reflect on our well-being. Our people are the foundation of our college, and we’re dedicated to fostering a thriving community and a culture of wellness in CALS.
Sept. 17: Mark Your Calendars for Wolfpack Wellness Day
This year, Sept. 17 is designated as Wolfpack Wellness Day at NC State. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate our commitment to health and well-being. Whether you’re located on main campus or at one of our many facilities or research stations across the state, there are plenty of ways to get involved:
- Campus Events: Immerse yourself in a variety of engaging activities, from informative workshops and fitness classes to relaxing meditation sessions and health screenings.
- Virtual Offerings: If you can’t make it to campus, don’t worry! There are virtual events and resources available to ensure everyone can participate.
- Self-Care Initiatives: Take some time for yourself and engage in activities that promote relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether it’s going for a walk in nature, reading a good book, or spending quality time with loved ones, take some time to prioritize self-care.
Check out the University Calendar for all wellness events taking place on Sept. 17 and throughout the entire month.
CALS Advisory Board for Strategic Excellence & Well-being
Did you know that our college has a dedicated advisory board focused on promoting strategic excellence and well-being? Formed in April 2024 as part of the NC State Strategic Plan, the CALS Advisory Board for Strategic Excellence & Well-being is dedicated to fostering a supportive and healthy work environment for everyone in our college. Reporting directly to CALS Dean Garey Fox, the Advisory Board is committed to recruiting, retaining and investing in the people who make up our college. Stay tuned to see the exciting initiatives and positive changes this group implements to achieve these goals!
Practical Wellness Practices for Busy Employees
We understand that life can be demanding, but incorporating small wellness practices into your daily routine can make a world of difference:
- Mindful Moments: Take short breaks throughout the day to practice deep breathing or mindfulness meditation.
- Movement Matters: Find ways to incorporate physical activity into your day, whether it’s taking a walk during lunch or stretching at your desk. Maybe consider a walking meeting with a team member.
- Nourishing Nutrition: Fuel your body with healthy foods and stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Connect and Collaborate: Cultivate positive relationships with your colleagues and engage in social activities that bring you joy.
Remember: Your Well-being Matters
Taking care of your mental and physical health is essential. Don’t hesitate to utilize resources like the NC State Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP) for confidential counseling and support. The CALS Wellness webpage also lists a wealth of resources for all your wellness goals and needs.
Let’s make this semester a healthy and successful one for everyone in CALS. Together, we can create a thriving community that values well-being and supports each other’s journey to a healthier and happier life.
