From June 12-15, the 2017 North American Comparative Immunology Workshop will bring immunologists from around the world to NC State’s campus to discuss the immune defense mechanisms of animals, plants and microbes.
“Given the work that is done here, I think NC State is one of the leaders in this area,” co-organizer and professsor of poultry science Matt Koci said. “I hope and expect that when the attendees of NACI get here in June, they will see that too.”
The event is brought to Talley Student Center by a collaboration between the College of Agriculture and Life Science and the College of Veterinary Medicine: Professors Jeff Yoder of Innate Immunology and Matt Koci of Poultry Science are co-organizers, with support from the deans of CALS, CVM, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and the National Science Foundation. The event also has multiple corporate sponsors, as well as sponsorship from the NC State Comparative Medicine Institute and the Triangle Center for Evolutionary Medicine. Attendance is expected from across the United State and Canada, as well as Australia and Taiwan.
The meeting will also showcase cutting-edge technologies and their application to research with these nontraditional systems, with the goal of producing a white paper that sets a research priority roadmap for the community.
