Director of CALS Office of Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Alex Graves shares why she is hopeful for societal change.
We as a people will prevail.
At times it seems as if things have not gotten any better, but we must all remember that when we unify our efforts societal changes occur.
In this moment, right now it feels awful, and emotions are high. However, we must channel our emotions into commitments to actively speak out against discrimination. Speak out against inequities. Use your platform to educate and empower one another, and show kindness to those who are most affected by acts of hate and violence.
Change occurs through what I refer to as the 3P’s. We must remain:
- Purposeful
- Persistent
- Persevering
Difficult work remains and it’s up to all of us to contribute to the transformation to a more equitable and just world.
The CALS Office of Diversity and Inclusion will continue to hold critical discussions and conversations about race and racism. We will also continue to facilitate crucial conversations necessary to identify and eliminate all types of inequities. We are here to help create and maintain a diverse and inclusive community.
We ask that you take care of yourself. Take care of your physical self, your mental self, and your emotional self. And, if you find yourself struggling, reach out to us and we will help.
