The 2019 CALS Award for Excellence, as well as the Award for Excellence in Safety are still receiving nominations. The submission deadline for both awards is Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 5 p.m.
The qualifications for the Award for Excellence are as follows:
- Customer Service
- Efficiency and Innovation
- Human Relations
- Outstanding State Government Service
- Public Service
- Safety and Heroism
- Spirit of North Carolina
In addition to receiving eight hours of paid time off and a $250 cash-award from the respective college or business unit, recipients are also honored at the NC State University Awards for Excellence ceremony, where up to twelve individuals receive special distinction as recipients of the NC State University Awards for Excellence.
The qualifications for the Award for Safety are the following:
- Demonstrated safety leadership
- Creative response to a workplace hazard
- Appropriate safety and hazard prevention orientation and ongoing training
- Documentation and training of all individuals within group (for example, an individual who takes responsibility for training on a piece of equipment for each individual who needs to use that equipment)
- Maintenance of workplace safety program through time (as personnel change)
- A former award recipient may NOT be nominated again if in the same position/duties when the award was received.
Past and/or present safety committee members are not eligible for awards.

– Typed recommendation (no more than two pages) submitted to cmello@ncsu.edu
