Meet this month’s Staff Senator Spotlight, Sara Lane!
What is the Staff Senate? The NC State University Staff Senate is an advisory body to the University Chancellor. In this role, the Staff Senators have a variety of responsibilities such as:
- Initiating the review of policies and/or procedures and make recommendations regarding interest/concerns that affect staff members;
- Receiving proposed policies or policy changes from the chancellor for review and recommendations;
- Assisting in the communication of issues and activities affecting staff members; promotes and facilitates staff participation in the university community;
- Encouraging a sense of community among all university employees.
Sara represents District 11-CALS and is the CALS Coordinator of Career Services. When Sara was first nominated she was happy to find out that her perceptions of what staff senators did for the university were right on point.
“I thought we would be representing the concerns of our constituents to the university leadership, and that’s what we do! I’ve enjoyed getting to know my fellow Senators from around the university, as well as gaining in-depth knowledge of how the university works. I also like feeling like I’m serving my fellow CALS staff members and others around campus and around the state. Being a Staff Senator will help you feel like part of a bigger community here at NC State and will give you a greater sense of purpose in your work.”
“If CALS staff members have anything they’d like the Staff Senate to address, I would love to hear from them! Also, I manage the Staff Senate LinkedIn page and encourage CALS staff members and faculty to connect with us on LinkedIn – @NC State Staff Senate.”
The Senate meets every first Wednesday of each month, with the exception of the July meeting. All general session meetings are open to everyone! The Staff Senate also has a LinkedIn page
