NC State community:
Thank you again for all your efforts to help keep the Pack on track throughout the spring semester. Because of you, we successfully managed a robust surveillance testing program, kept isolation and quarantine numbers at low levels and distributed thousands of safe and effective vaccines.
As we build on this momentum and see pandemic levels across the country continue to head in the right direction, we set our sights on ensuring a smooth summer transition and a more normal fall semester. We look forward to returning to pre-pandemic levels of face-to-face learning, living and working on campus.
To help with this transition and your planning efforts, please see the following important updates about community standards, gathering limits, testing and vaccinations.
Community Standards and Face Coverings
NC State will maintain the majority of our COVID-19 community standards for the time being.A few key points:
- Face coverings are no longer required outdoors.
- Face coverings are still required while indoors in all NC State facilities, regardless of an individual’s vaccination status, unless you are alone in a private, enclosed dorm room, apartment or office with the door closed; or you are actively eating or drinking while maintaining physical distancing.
NC State’s community standards will be carefully evaluated as we continue to receive more guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state of North Carolina. We will communicate appropriate updates to the campus community.
Vaccinations and Their Benefits
Vaccines are our best defense against COVID-19, and everyone in our community is highly encouraged to receive one. We continue to provide vaccines free of charge on campus to all NC State students, faculty, staff and alumni, and family members who are at least 12 years of age. For more information on scheduling your appointment for an on-campus vaccine, click here.
If you received your vaccine off campus, please let the university know. Instructions on how to upload your vaccination status are available here. This will help provide the university with information for making effective safety and operational decisions moving forward.
Effective June 1, all those who have received vaccines on campus or who provide proof of vaccination status through the HealthyPack Portal will be exempt from the following:
- The surveillance testing requirement (see below).
- Mandatory quarantine, in most cases, as part of the contact tracing program.
Summer Surveillance Testing and Requirements
Our on-campus surveillance testing program will continue throughout the summer. Students living on campus and employees working in face-to-face roles are required to get tested weekly. As employees begin returning to on-site work, supervisors will work with employees to establish a weekly testing schedule. Individuals who provide proof of vaccination will in most cases be exempt from this requirement.
On-campus surveillance testing will remain available for the NC State community throughout the summer and fall. COVID-19 tests on campus are free and available to all NC State students, faculty and staff — no appointments are necessary. For more information on testing locations and hours, please click here.
New Gathering Limits
Effective June 1, NC State is increasing indoor gathering limits to 100 people and outdoor gathering limits to 200 people. Community standards apply to all on-campus gatherings.
