Beginning July 1, 2017, gifts to NC State University will be assessed 7% (except for gifts supporting endowments).

In 2010, the University established a policy assessing non-endowed gifts at 5%. As of July 1st, 2017 the gift assessment fee on non-endowed gifts has increased from 5% to 7%. All pledges established prior to this date (and associated pledge payments) will continue to be assessed at 5%.

Moving forward, the 2010 guidelines relating to the types of gifts assessed and/or exempted from the one-time gift assessment fee remain the unchanged. Similarly, the 2010 guidelines also remain unchanged as it pertains to which endowed funds are assessed.

In addition, Endowment assessment changes will provide consistency across all college and units with a 125 basis point assessment on income from all endowments. The North Carolina Agricultural Foundation is currently assessed at 100 basis points, therefore; this results in an increase of 25 basis points. The North Carolina Tobacco Foundation is currently assessed at 75 basis points; therefore, this results in an increase 50 basis points.

NC State and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences are committed to providing the best service possible to ensure that gifts are used according to our donors’ intentions. Like other organizations that depend on philanthropic support, the university needs to cover administrative costs incurred in managing its fundraising operations. All revenue generated from these fees will be invested in the advancement/development programs in central Advancement and at the college/entity levels. Since the gift fee was first implemented in 2010, NC State has used these additional revenues to hire development staff in eight different colleges and in central Advancement. The gift fee has also provided critical funding for program support and donor relations. The revenue generated from this increase will allow NC State, the College and the Foundations to continue to expand and grow our fundraising efforts while building our endowment and advancement infrastructure to sustainable levels.
