Thanks to our extraordinary students, faculty and staff, we have the human capacity to develop solutions to global grand challenges like food security, protection of soil and water resources and air quality, and sustainable production of food, feed and fiber.

Our Mission, Vision & Values

Agriculture and the environment have never been more important to the future of our state, country and the world. The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences is a recognized leader in developing science-based solutions to local and global agricultural and environmental challenges.

Our mission, vision and values honor our past and provide strategic direction for our work with students, partners, faculty and staff to discover and advance opportunities and solutions that benefit us all.

Our History

The merger of the Crop Science and Soil Sciences Departments in 2016 represents the reunification of the original Agronomy Department. We have a proud history of developing talent, conducting research and building programs that garner national acclaim and the support of our diverse stakeholder groups.

We are focused on the crop and soil sciences mission while generating resources from grants and partnerships with industry, state regulatory agencies, and federal programs.

Our shared history is our strength.
