Soil is the largest and most dynamic terrestrial pool for nutrients such as C. Up to 90% of organic matter resides in close associations with soil minerals. Current research focuses on pathways and mechanisms of cycling of carbon in terrestrial and adjacent aqueous as well gaseous systems. Thus, to improve fundamental understanding and to develop practical strategies for improving soil carbon sequestration, which eventually benefit all life-beings on earth. Lab-simulated and field methods and advanced spectroscopy and chromatography instrumentations are applied to gain a better understanding of the world beneath us.
