VetCAMP was extended to two weeks of virtual, yet interactive programming for 271 high school students. The five-day program incorporated behind-the-scenes tours of a large animal veterinary hospital, a live demonstration of a reptile exam at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, a tour of a CVM NC State research lab, and equine anatomy and hematology labs, among other seminars. Campers were introduced to veterinary research, exotic animal and large animal medicine as well as DVM admissions representatives from four veterinary colleges across the U.S.

2021 Virtual VetCAMP Week 1
DAY 1 – Introductory
Day 1 provides an introduction to Virtual VetCAMP, where campers met Dr. Shweta Trivedi. The session offered valuable information about admission requirements at NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine and featuring Nikkiya White and Dr. Korrinn Saker as guest speakers.
DAY 2 – Dr. Sandra Strong
Day 2’s session featured Dr. Sandra Strong, a shelter veterinarian at Orange County Animal Shelter. She provided insightful information about her journey to the veterinary field.
DAY 3 – DVM Speakers
During the Day 3 session, campers had the opportunity to meet DVM students Alexis Roach, Emily Wiloch, and Christian Capobianco and ask them questions.
DAY 4 – Wrapping Up
Day 4 was the final day of the 2021 Virtual VetCAMP, where students had the opportunity to meet current NC State students. They also met Dr. Danielle Myzk and learned about a service project.
2021 Virtual VetCAMP Week 2
DAY 1 – Introductory
The Day 1 session introduced VetCAMP and its purpose for participating students, providing valuable information on how high school students can get started in the veterinary field. The session featured Charlotte Meli, who discussed equine physical characteristics and shared information about the equine muscle lab.
DAY 2 – Dr. Alexandru Pop
The Day 2 session featured large animal veterinarian Dr. Alexandru Pop as a guest speaker for campers. He shared insights on large animal medicine and offered tips on advancing along the veterinary career path.
DAY 3 – Hematology Lab and NC Turtle Rescue Team
The Day 3 session began in the morning with Dr. Shweta Trivedi reviewing the hematology lab, covering the functions and components of blood, differences between plasma and serum, and blood collection techniques. The afternoon session featured the NC Turtle Rescue Team, where students took a virtual tour and met Sarah Zurbuchen and Sam Badgett.
DAY 4 – NC Museum and Veterinary Insights
The Day 4 session included a virtual tour of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and a meeting with exotic animal veterinarian Dr. Dan Dombrowski. Additionally, campers met CVM admissions officials from Purdue University, University of Florida, Cornell University, and Iowa State University.
DAY 5 – Wrapping Up
The Day 5 session was the final day of Week 2. Campers had the opportunity to take a virtual tour of the CVM NCSU research lab and completed wrap-up activities, including meeting Tyler Pridgen (an exotic animal veterinarian) and learning about a service project.
