Katy Browne

My name is Katy Browne and I’m originally from New Jersey. I moved to Raleigh to go to North Carolina State University and I am now a member of the Mizzou CVM Class of 2023.

I got the majority of my veterinary hours at a family owned, local, mixed animal practice in NJ where I worked for two and a half years and made really close connections with the veterinarians there. I mostly worked with small animals, but also rode along on farm calls. I moved to Raleigh in 2016 for school and worked at the clinic over the summers and on breaks. I graduated NCSU in Spring of 2019 with a major in Animal Sciences and a concentration in Veterinary Biosciences. I graduated a year early because I entered NCSU with a lot of credits from my high school’s Dual Enrollment program. Since I obtained many small animal veterinary hours in NJ on summer and winter breaks, I focused my semesters on maintaining a competitive GPA and diversifying my experiences.

I worked as a VetPAC Intern during my sophomore year at NCSU and was the High School Outreach Coordinator. During this time, I also joined Turtle Rescue Team and Feed the Pack Food Pantry. I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in an epidemiology laboratory at NCSU’s vet school from January of 2018 until August of 2019. I also attended the ANS 495: Wildlife Management and Conservation in South Africa study abroad program in Limpopo, South Africa during the summer of 2018. In the fall of 2018, I was a teaching assistant for Dr. Trivedi’s ANS 205 course.

My experiences helped me decide that I do not want to work with large animals or in a research facility. I hope to work in the emergency medicine field after vet school, focusing on small and exotic animals.
