In Memoriam: Roger Fites
We are saddened to announce the passing of PMB Professor Roger Fites.
Dr. Fites received his Bachelors degree in Agronomy at Perdue University in 1961, his Master’s of Science in Plant Physiology from the University of Illinois in 1962, and his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from the University of Illinois Plant Physiology in 1965.
Upon coming to NC State University, his appointment consisted of about seventy percent teaching and thirty percent research.
Colleague Dr. Udo Blum writes, “Roger was an excellent teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students. He was frequently called upon by faculty and the department head for advice regarding a whole range of departmental issues. He was a highly respected and active member of the Botany Department, the College, and the University. On the other hand he was also one of the leaders and instigator of occasional humorous episodes within the department directed at the faculty.”
