2 ARE Faculty Elected AAEA Section Chairs
Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist Alejandro Gutierrez-Li and Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist Daniel Tregeagle were recently elected chairs of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) Latin American and Speciality Crops Economics Sections, respectively. In these roles, Gutierrez-Li and Tregeagle will serve three years on the executive committees of their sections and help organize programming specific to their topics of interest.
AAEA Sections are subgroups of AAEA formed by members with common interests. Sections promote networking through e-mail discussion listservs, pre- and post-conference workshops and track sessions at the Annual Meeting. Duties of the section chairs include serving as a liaison with AAEA, facilitating section meetings and special events and overseeing all section operations.
The objective of the Latin America Section is to bring together members interested in teaching, research, outreach and engagement activities related to agricultural and applied economics and policy issues in Latin America and its linkage to the U.S. and the world. The section serves as a forum for exchanging ideas and identifies opportunities for collaboration among members and other professionals in academia, industry and government.
The Specialty Crop Economics Section’s objective is to bring together and offer a forum for members who are interested in the cross-cutting areas of marketing, trade, policy, farm and agribusiness management, sustainability and risk management as they relate to specialty crops (fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, floriculture, and nursery crops). The intended outcome of this section is the greater success of economists in solving specialty crop problems and more transdisciplinary teams led by economists.
Congratulations, Alejandro and Daniel!
