NCSFMRA Creates New Endowment at Annual Meeting
On Thursday February 8th, 2018, members of the North Carolina Society for Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers attended their annual meeting. The focus of the educational discussion this year was the hemp industry in North Carolina.
Raymond Coltrain, the outgoing president of the Society opened the meeting at 9 am and was followed by Michael Walden, NC State Agricultural and Resource Economics, who delivered an outlook of the US and North Carolina economies. Other notable presenters included Robert Hosford of the NC Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Guido van der Hoeven of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Calvin Whitfield, Hemp Farmer, SHNC, LLC; and Scott Propheter, Criticality, LLC.
After a year of work, the Society formally established an endowment to fund up to two NC State student scholarships per year. The initial scholarship is for $1,500. The Society will hold an educational summer tour this July in New Bern under the leadership of the new president, Matt Edwards. Guido van der Hoeven remains the NCSFMRA Secretary and was recognized for 20 years of membership.
