Beghin Recognized as AAEA Fellow
Dr. John Beghin, Professor and Department Head of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE), was selected as a Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA). The AAEA is the leading professional association for those working in agricultural and broadly related fields of applied economics. Recognition as an AAEA fellow is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the Association. Only a select few are recognized as Fellows each year for their outstanding impact on the profession. A ceremony recognizing this career achievement was held on August 6th during the AAEA annual meeting in Washington, DC. John’s wife, Yalem, and daughter Ascale Carla were there to celebrate along with Dr. Barry Goodwin and other ARE faculty members.
John Beghin earned his MSc in agricultural economics at NC State and then received his PhD from UC Berkeley in 1988. After returning to NC State as a faculty member for 10 years, John went on to serve as Director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute and Marlin Cole Professor of international agricultural economics at Iowa State University. He an expert in international agriculture and food markets economics and his areas of interest include non-tariff measures, trade and the environment, and global food security. John has published over 100 articles and book chapters, and has held visiting appointments and served as a consultant with several organizations including the the USGAO, USACE, OECD, FAO, and the World Bank.
