Banzhaf Honored With Best Book Award
The History of Economics Society recently awarded this year’s Joseph J. Spengler Best Book Prize to ARE Professor and CEnREP Director Spencer Banzhaf for his book Pricing the Priceless: A History of Environmental Economics.
The Spengler Prize committee selected Banzhaf’s work for its innovative contribution to the field. Pricing the Priceless provides an in-depth analysis of the postwar history of environmental economics in the United States, using a wider lens to revisit the history of applied microeconomics in the 20th century.
The committee praised Banzhaf’s meticulous analysis of primary literature and his engagement with the works of other historians of economic thought. His analysis challenges preconceived notions and sheds new light on the legacies influencing environmental and resource economics today.
Congratulations, Spencer!
