ARE Launches New Strategic Plan

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) at NC State developed a new strategic plan to define our core identity, clarify our mission and outline our vision through 2030. The plan, a collaboration between faculty, staff, students and stakeholders, identifies three strategic focus areas and provides a clear, adaptable roadmap that can respond to changing circumstances and opportunities.

In April, input was gathered from faculty, staff, students and industry partners through an online survey and two focus groups. The participants shared their perspectives on the department’s challenges, opportunities and vision for ARE’s future.

The process culminated in a strategic planning retreat in May to discuss the results of the surveys and focus groups. Faculty and staff used this retreat to assess the department’s current state, set future goals, and identify specific focus areas to chart a strategic course toward achieving these goals. Feedback was summarized from the survey, focus groups and retreat, and after departmental review, the plan was finalized in October.

The strategic plan will guide the department’s efforts from 2024 through 2030, with annual reviews to ensure the goals remain responsive to evolving challenges and opportunities. The department invites stakeholders, alumni and partners to join us in implementing this new plan.
