My name is Mallory Flanagan, and I am a member of the NCSU CVM Class of 2025. I am from Eden, North Carolina and graduated with my B.S. in Animal Science from NC State in May 2021.

While I have not yet narrowed down which focus area of veterinary medicine I want to pursue, most of my experience is in small animal private practice, and I am interested in further investigating the business aspect of owning a small animal clinic so that I can combine my veterinary degree with my minor in Agricultural Business Management.

The reason I am currently undecided, is because NCSU provided me with a wide array of opportunities during my undergraduate career, and all of these have thoroughly interested me as a potential career. I was an Undergrad Research Assistant in the Cheng Lab for two years, assisting on research projects on pulmonary and cystic fibrosis, as well as authoring a project plan for COPD with my research partner, working with transgenic mice as our model. Additionally, I had the opportunity to study abroad and take part in the Wildlife Management and Conservation course where I found a love for conservation medicine and working with large exotic animals. Lastly, I had the opportunity to give back to students and found a love for teaching during my role as a teaching assistant for ANS 205 and ANS 281.

I am excited to see where my various interests will lead me throughout my time in vet school and am thankful NCSU has such a wide array of opportunities that allowed me to explore and discover what interests me.
