My name is Sarah Swartout and I am overjoyed to be a member of the NCSU CVM class of 2024. I am originally from Hope Mills, NC and graduated in May of 2019 with my B.S. in Animal Science. I also have a minor in Entomology with a focus in veterinary and medical entomology.

My interests in veterinary medicine lie in food/large animal medicine and academia. Majoring in Animal Science gave me the hands-on experience with food animals that influenced my desire to work with them as a career, and I have been lucky to be offered so many teaching experiences that have groomed my love for teaching.

At NCSU I was chosen to go to South Africa for the Animal Science Pre-Veterinary study abroad, where I was able to work with exotic large animals. This experience showed me that the fields of veterinary medicine are diverse but not exclusive and made me excited to pursue large animal even further. I also worked with VetPAC and VetCAMP, which both have shown me that I want to pursue academia as well.
