Carly Rhyne

Biography:
I grew up in Stanley, NC, a small town outside of Charlotte and attended EastGastonHigh School. I was involved in 4 sports and spent my summers working as a lifeguard and swimming on a summer league swim team.
From the time I was young, I had a love and fascination with animals, and knew that I wanted to work with them in some capacity. As I got older and learned more about the veterinary field, I decided to apply to NC State University to pursue this as a career.  It was not until the summer after my freshman year of college that I began to gain hands on experience working with animals.
During my undergraduate career at NC State, I gained a variety of veterinary, animal, and research experience in order to get a feel for what aspect of veterinary medicine I enjoyed most. These experiences included working with small animals in kennels and vet clinics, conducting poultry research, working at an equine vet clinic, and rehabilitating injured raptors. In addition, I gained immense knowledge and hands on experience with livestock through animal science courses and laboratories.  During my time outside of classes, I also gained leadership and teaching experience. I achieved this as a member of the Pre-Vet and Companion Animal Clubs, and as a teaching assistant for an animal anatomy and physiology lab and an introductory course for freshman to Agriculture and Life Sciences.
In December of 2009, I received B.S. degrees in Biological Science, Animal Science, and a minor in nutrition. Soon after in February of 2010, I was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at OregonStateUniversity and have taken their offer to become a member of the class of 2014. After I complete my DVM degree at OregonState, I plan to work in small animal private practice and hope to eventually lead medical mission trips abroad.
