Dr. Ashwell focuses his research program on understanding the biological basis of economically important traits in poultry.

Research interests include

  • epigenetics,
  • the influence of breeder environment on broilers,
  • biological mechanisms of dietary supplements/enzymes,
  • the interaction of the microbiome and host immunity,
  • the genetic basis of muscle myopathies
  • stress physiology
  • comparative genomics and
  • functional genomics.
