Western turf conference is March 12

The annual Western North Carolina Turfgrass Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 at the Virginia C. Boone Mountain Heritage Building at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center in Fletcher just outside Asheville.

The conference features experts from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences giving presentations on establishing and caring for turf used for golf courses, lawns and athletic fields. Presentation topics include weed, insect and disease control; turf management and research as well as smartphone and tablet technology related to turf.

In addition, the session on golf course turf will feature a presentation by Pat O’Brien, agronomist with the U.S. Golf Association.

There is a $50 registration fee for the conference prior to March 8, after which the fee is $75.

The conference is sponsored by North Carolina State University, the Turfgrass Council of North Carolina, Western North Carolina Turfgrass Association and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
