TV show nominated for two regional EMMYs

N.C. State University’s television show, In the Garden with Bryce Lane, has been nominated for two regional EMMY® Awards. This is the third straight year of nominations for the show and brings the total number of the show’s  Emmy nominations to five.

“There were nearly 800 entries this year, and N.C. State was one of only two universities to receive nominations,” said the show’s producer and assistant editor, Sonya Williams Harris. “In the Garden is the only show of its kind currently offered in the southeastern region of the country. … [It] is both an entertaining television series and a horticulture distance education course. Viewers can register for the course to earn college credit.”

Bryce Lane, the show’s host and instructor in N.C. State’s Department of Horticultural Science, brings more than 30 years of teaching experience to television. In the Garden is produced by University Communications. Harris; Simone Keith, videographer/editor; and graphic artists Bill Baverstock and John Vanaman make up the production team.

The show airs Saturdays at noon on UNC-TV and repeats Sundays at 11:30 a.m. and Mondays at 3:30 p.m.

In the Garden won a regional EMMY® in 2011 in the Instructional/Informational Series category.

The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced the nominations for the 27th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards at a reception last night in Nashville, TN. Winners will be announced during a live telecast from the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville on Jan. 26, 2013.

NATAS is a non-profit, professional organization dedicated to fostering excellence in television. The academy has 19 chapters with 15,000 members nationwide. The Nashville/Midsouth Region encompasses the States of North Carolina (except Asheville) and Tennessee, and northern Alabama.
